Dr. Craig Hurst
Owner & Board Certified Plastic SurgeonDr. Hurst, is a board certified plastic surgeon who provides cosmetic and reconstructive services in Southern Arizona. He currently practices at the Institute for Plastic Surgery, a division of Arizona Community Surgeons. Dr. Hurst obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at Mount Allison University in Eastern Canada. He simultaneously obtained a Master of Science degree at Dalhousie University while finishing his medical schooling. Subsequently, he completed a general surgery residency in Ottawa and is board certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in General Surgery. Dr. Hurst carried out his plastic surgery residency at the University of Utah where he experienced a great diversity of cases from both an aesthetic and reconstructive perspective. He went on to be accepted at Indiana University for the Von Delien-Curtis Fellowship in craniofacial plastic surgery which offered highly specialized training in facial reconstruction and rejuvenation enhancement in both children and adults. Dr. Hurst is certified in plastic surgery by two different entities, the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Upon completing his training, Dr. Hurst went back to Halifax, joining the Division of Plastic Surgery at Dalhousie University as an Assistant Professor. After years of providing specialized care in Eastern Canada, Dr. Hurst was tasked with developing plastic surgery methods at the University of Arizona. He is credited with initiating the multidisciplinary breast reconstruction and the maxillofacial reconstruction programs. Dr. Hurst partnered with doctors and surgeons at the Children’s Rehabilitation Services Clinic to develop the cleft team that has since been recognized by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. Until recently he was an Associate Professor and acting Chief of Plastic Surgery at the University of Arizona. For six years he mentored students and residents in surgical techniques, and during his time at the university, Dr. Hurst successfully carried out a number of complicated reconstructive procedures. Patients from around the world have sought out his expertise. In his practice, Dr. Hurst offers a patient centered approach.
